Jižák, city of dreams
Festival Street For Art 2012
Jižák, City of Dreams is going to be a presentation directed at collaboration with the youths living in the largest Prague district – Jižní město (South City), in short called Jižák. The actors will be “experts of the everyday life”, i.e. teenagers who can give evidence of the particularities of their lives, dreams and experience with this autonomous city district. The unique character of the location and its identity will be emphasised and represented with the use of the locals’ personal stories, themes and desires. The perspective of the district’s relatively short history and the outline of its possible future will both be important aspects of this project. It will be created in the style of devised theatre, meaning that it will be the work of a collective without a text or script given in advance.
How do teenagers see the future of Jižní Město and their role within it? What can be changed in this space? Could Jižní Město become a functional independent city? What is the teenagers’ future on the periphery and what is the future of Jižák – the unexplored territory?
